If we were having coffee – 28 May 2016

If we were having coffee, then we would be having tea (there are many varieties to choose from). Or you could have some water or milk or even soy milk.

If we were having our weekend drinks then I would ask you if you wanted some vanilla ice cream with that, maybe with some pecans? You might know that I have a love for Vanilla, which pushed me to read and review an amazing book.

If we were having coffee, then you might be asking how I have been, which is understandable seen my blogging silence and the last post I put up. I am shingles free now, my skin is still of a different shade where the rash was, and I am lucky the pain is mostly gone. It does hurt at times when I don’t drink enough water. So my advice for anyone having shingles is: drink a lot of water! Hydration is the key to avoid horrible pain. Little one’s chickenpox appeared two weeks ago, now her scars are all healing.

We just enjoyed a beautiful morning, with sun, sunscreen (I have the lightest skin ever, and my daughter is almost transparent…), and sun glasses (got to protect those blue eyes, luckily they aren’t light blue). Now that I am in the comfort of my home a thunderstorm has started to brew. There is already a drizzle, and rolling thunder but I haven’t seen flashes of lightning so far. Little one is sleeping, something that she did not do yesterday, thus today it was more than easy.

Last weekend, I saw a friend who used to live on the same floor (and as I cannot help speaking to strangers I sometimes make friends) but currently lives in New York, her boyfriend lives in the street parallel to mine so she’s in Paris from time to time.

Orchid

If we were having coffee, then I would proudly show you our orchids. S brought them home from work, as orchids often serve as living bouquets. We have been pampering them massively and now the have been making roots and leaves for some time and maybe one of them is going to give us flowers, something is growing out of it that does not look like a root. Yesterday and today I did make sure that they could take a good sunbath, which means they sit on the kitchen sink.

Orchid

OrchidIf we were having tea and ice cream then I’d tell you that I have been enjoying work a lot lately. Having regular clients and finishing a good month does help. Tomorrow I am teaching my first ever lesson via skype! So far I either go to my students or they come here. So this will be a great new step forward. If you know anyone looking for German lessons, then do send them my way 🙂

I would tell you that we’ll be on holidays for a little while in June, travelling back down south, just like last year, I am sure that there will be some great adventures waiting for us that I will be able to share with you once we’ll be back.

Sorry for that small interruption, but little one was in need for snuggles to continue her nap.

I will leave you now to enjoy your weekend. Have fun catching up with some other bloggers with a cup of coffee (or tea). For more information head over to Diana’s blog Part-Time Monster there you will be able to find her post and the linkup to find the other posts and include your own.

Have a good weekend! Go put your nose into some roses!

  2. Hi Solveig, I am glad to hear you and your daughter have recovered from your bouts of illness.
I have become obsessed with orchids recently, I have about 6 at my house. I read somewhere you could “force” them to flower by putting them in a North facing window for about 45 days and then they would begin to flower again. I tried that and it worked! I think they need to be repotted about every year- something which I need to do. They also need fertilizer. And only water every couple of weeks. That’s about all the knowledge I have on orchids, for now.
I wish we could really sit down and have coffee, I think that would be great. Have a wonderful weekend!!!!!

    1. Hey,
Thank you! That is interesting. The orchid that actually seems to be making a branch for flowers was the closest to a north facing window you can find in my house. North-East is where my biggest windows face.
We’ve had one orchid for 2 years now and well never gave it fertiliser. Eventually we repotted it, it went crazy with the roots and now we have been feeding all of them regularly, and the results are impressive. I gave them a nice shower on the weekend (not of fertiliser of course).
I hope that you did have a great weekend!

      1. It seems to be working, this north facing window thing, I have an orchid at work that has now sprouted a new branch or stem or what ever it is. Orchids are so pretty, but so strange all at the same time, almost primitive.

  4. I’ve never understood people who say “plain vanilla,” because vanilla is one of the most wonderful flavors on earth!

  5. Glad to read that you are feeling better, Solveig. Your orchids are gorgeous. Tea would be perfect for me. I prefer tea to coffee. And ice cream is my weakness. Enjoy your upcoming holiday.

  7. Norah, pretty much summed up what I wanted to say to you about your shingles and your daughter’s chickenpox. Ouch! I was bitten by small snadflies called midges down both arms and legs and the itch was excruciating. Not sure if that goes close as I know shingles is really nasty. My Mum got vaccinated. Speaking of vaccines, I’m needing my flu jab.
I have a job interview for a community liaison type role with my daughter’s school. I haven’t written about the job on my blog as I’m using it as a reference and am trying to appear calm, confidant and together. I had my hair cut and coloured and my eyebrows waxed. You can wonder how these superficial things can help but I had very positive feedback and every bit helps. I’ll be updating my CV and organising the press clippings of my work. The job is one day a week, which still leaves me with plenty of time to write, blog and manage my health.
Take care. You’ve had quite a rough trot. You might enjoy reading my post about Queensland High Tea. We went out for high tea for Geoff’s sister’s 60th birthday. It was held in a historic Queenslander house which had been converted into a teahouse. My grandparents lived in one of these Queenslander houses so it brought back a lot of memories.
By the way, do you follow Suzie81? Do you hear she and the Bloke got engaged? Very exciting news. You end up sharing so much with your blogging family!
Hope you have a better time ahead!
    xx Rowena
