Now or never

If I don’t write now, I might never have the courage to do so again.

I know that that is not true. But I haven’t published a blog post since the last contribution to the advent calendar went up.

That’s not good.

But I am not here to berate my absence of writing, or to provide my lovely readers with explanations (work, kids, family, writer’s block, no energy, feeling obliged to reply to comments and visit blogs when there is not enough time to do so… the list is long).

Today, I am here to write. My whole family is sleeping, if I am not mistaken everything that had to be done is done (writing those words the 5 copies of an exam I have to grade shoot to my head, oh no! Grading papers is not a fun thing (it can be when it is creative writing), especially when you have no idea what the student wrote about…

So, I have so many stories that want to ooze onto the pages. I have my life to share… Travels to tell you about, amazing places to visit, a new series in my head and so on. But for so long I had something blocking my path.

And writing is self-care for me! It’s more than a hobby, it’s a lifeline it’s where I am at home. It’s how I want to pay the rent!

Now enough of my ramblings. Now that’s off my heart and I shall hopefully jump right back into blogging where I left off shortly after my mother’s death…

Bye for now, but I will be back. And if you really miss me, you can always follow me on Instagram (even if you don’t miss me, follow me…)

Advent, Advent 2017!

Be part of the 3rd edition of multi-contributor Advent Calendar!

Christmas is coming! No, this won’t be a post about how Christmas products are arriving on the shelves way too early, they are in my mind… I know we haven’t passed Halloween yet, but it is time that I make the big announcement EVERYONE has been waiting for since the 24th of December 2016… Continue reading “Advent, Advent 2017!”

Blogging Announcements

IMG_5475Once again this year in blogging has started out less consistent  than I had hoped it to be. I have my reasons…

Still, this does not keep me from having some projects for this blog.

First of all, on Sunday I am starting something completely new…

There will be an interview with an author!

Up until now I have not interviewed any authors, I have in the past done interviews with musicians and with ambassadors, central bankers and European civil servants. I also had the opportunity to be present at an interview with a German politician back in 2005 when I was doing an internship at the Economist in Germany. So I am now getting back into something I really enjoy doing.

I hope that this interview will be the first of many! I also want to do features on blogs and places on the internet that I enjoy.

On the 12th of March my blog will turn two. As March has a big event in store for my family, I am not sure that I will be spending a lot of time online. But I am hoping to put up some posts linking back to the posts that I have cherished most in my two years on WordPress.

Then if I can manage to prepare my posts I will be participating in this year’s edition of the A to Z Challenge. It is going to be a bit more complicated than it was last year though, as I am not sure that I will be able to provide links to my posts on a daily basis. But some of my posts are already written (on paper).

2016 might be over, but…

2016 might be over, but…

I would like to give a little update on the year’s stats. First the last quarter of 2016 and then the year’s overview.

Between October 1st and December 31st this blog was viewed a total of 2802 times! Thank you! That gives a monthly average of 934 views.

In October my blog received a total of 212 views, and only one post was published: I came out of my shell a while ago, but …

It has been a while – 2nd and 3rd Quarter of 2016 in Blogging Stats

It has been a while – 2nd and 3rd Quarter of 2016 in Blogging Stats

Last year in October I posted my first real stats report, on the 3rd Quarter of 2015. Then there was the end of year report which included the 4th Quarter of 2015 as well as a yearly overview. So far for this year I only put up one report, the one regarding the 1st Quarter. It was meant to continue being a regular feature, but life happens, and I did not blog all that much.

Mostly for future reference, and as I want to leave 2016 in 2016, here is a detailed report of the 2nd and 3rd Quarter of Blogging! The 4th Quarter and a global report for 2016 will follow once this year has come to a close.  Continue reading “It has been a while – 2nd and 3rd Quarter of 2016 in Blogging Stats”

Seasonal Magic

Last week I had the chance to be a guest on Melanie Noell Bernard’s blog! As she too had a Christmas series going on.

So maybe today, on the 4th day of Christmas you might want to have a look at the magic of the Christmas season 🙂

The entire season of Christmas is filled with magic for Solveig and her family. Read more about what adds to that magic and leave your thoughts in the comments!

Weekend Coffee Share 20th November 2016

Well it might be a bit late opportunity coffee now. But as not everyone is in my time zone you might enjoy a late night chat.

If we were having a very late chat, I’d tell you that I treated myself to a day off today. Lately I have been working 7 days per week and even though it’s between 1 hour and at the very most 6 (this rarely happens) a proper day off is a nice thing. After all it permits me to not talk or think too much.

If we were having coffee then I would ask you about your week, your weekend, your family, and all the things that might be of interest. I am realising that my on and well mostly off blogging has not altered my view of my blogging friends, to some of you I feel a deep connection. It’s a bit as if I have not written to pen pals, ah that reminds me of all the letters and emails that I should reply to, as well as all the emails, text messages and letters that I want to send. So yes blogging is sort of like writing letters, sometimes it flows and sometimes it doesn’t.

Sorry I am rambling!
If we were having coffee, then I’d ask you a very important question.

Would you like to participate in this year’s advent calendar? I am so exited about the many replies that have come in so far, and I am hoping for more contributors! To find out more please check out this post

If we were having coffee, then I would tell you that I am really longing to sleep, but Maus had a late and long nap that has altered all plans… Thus I will cut our chat short.

If you are celebrating Thanksgiving, have a happy one!

I came out of my shell a while ago, but …

Orchid

People tend to see me as an extrovert. Actually as someone who is overly extroverted.

But actually I tend to be very much of an introvert.

Apparently when I started kindergarten I spend a few days observing everything before jumping into the action myself. There were some days on which everyone was playing outside and I was busy with a friend of mine weaving carpets for my dolls or working on a drawing.

That introvert in my has always been there, more or less present. But over the years and through various circumstances the extrovert society wanted me to be took over. I guess it’s a strategy of survival. Recently I came across this article Hey, parents – leave those introverts alone! by Tim Lott published in The Guardian. It made me think. Think some more. Brought back some memories and underlined the obvious. I must be quite an introvert, even though I can be severely extroverted. Continue reading “I came out of my shell a while ago, but …”

Blogging or the Lack Thereof in the 1st Quater of 2016

Blogging or the Lack Thereof in the 1st Quater of 2016

BloggingNow, that it is April, it is time for another one of my stats posts. I like to do these on a quarterly basis, to look at my blogs progression, not too much to compare myself to others, no, to compare my blog to itself.

With the Advent Calendar in December 2015, last year finished on a high note stats wise, you can read more on it here. I had a total of 2 189 views (it says 2188 in the post, so I guess the stats page was not 100% up to date back then) for December, my blog has since then not had so many monthly views… But the year is still young, and as I had been on quite a long blogging break, due to my mom’s bad health and passing away. Here you can have an idea of how my posting suddenly changed: Continue reading “Blogging or the Lack Thereof in the 1st Quater of 2016”

Is your blog ready for the #AtoZChallenge?

Is your blog ready for the #AtoZChallenge?

I am not even going to ask if your posts are ready for A to Z, because mine aren’t in the slightest. But there are some things which you might want to verify before the challenge starts, they can be useful for your blog even if your are not participating in any challenges soon.

Commenting

Is it easy to leave a comment on your blog? Or do commenters need to sign up for a service? Are there some strange security features that will keep them from commenting? Continue reading “Is your blog ready for the #AtoZChallenge?”
