Weekend Coffee Share on a Birthday Weekend with a chat about books, blogging, friends and other things

If we were having coffee today (Saturday) then maybe we would have met up in the park this morning, it looks like rain now so I guess this afternoon you’d pay a visit to my humble home. If we’d decide to meet up tomorrow (Sunday) then you may join us for some birthday cake or on a Paris family outing (probably Palais Royal)…

Today or tomorrow, I suppose that we’d have a nice catching-up chat. I’d ask you loads of questions because that is what I do.

Last year, on my birthday I just felt terrible, it was hot, sticky, smelly and I had horrendous morning all-day and night sickness. So I am looking forward to celebrating the end of my 29th trip around the sun with two kids and some good food.

I would tell you about my new friend, who is from La Reunion and with whom I hung out quite a bit over the past week. She’s an English teacher and we met by pure chance while in the park. Our daughters seem to have bonded too, and we even had a picnic on Monday, one of the rare sunny days, the sun has not been about much recently.

On Tuesday, we had a holiday and S was off from work. We decided to go for a walk along the Seine, it’s such a lovely place to go and it was surprisingly void of tourists (they seem not to exist this August) and Parisians (well that’s not a surprise as they are all somewhere in the countryside or tourists in other places, it’s August in France after all). The girl absolutely loved going to the Seine, which she considered to be a vacation by the seaside. She keeps on bugging me to go back, which I can understand. You might remember I wrote about the Quais de Seine in 2015, time flies!

Over the past month or so I have read quite a few books. I just read them way too quickly, as I end out without a book. Last week on Tuesday, I received Buster & Moo by Geoff Le Pard in the post and by Friday I had to find some space on the full bookshelf. I did take the time to write a review (not doing the book justice, as it is really brilliant), you should read the book, and well the review too. Before that I read Seasons of Imagination by Trent P. McDonald (fellow coffee sharer) and The Vanishing Lord by Lucy Brazier, both books I recommend wholeheartedly and will try to review in the future… I suppose I read more books as I am currently using an old Nokia phone, meaning that I cannot occupy my time outside with looking at other blogs or the news. Not that I am fond of the news just right now… (Spain, Finland, Charlottesville, Trump, North Korea, pollution…)

If we were having coffee, then we’d probably talk about the kids, work, blogging, family and whatnot. If you are a fellow blogger, I would tell you how I really want to blog a bit more but seem to have my inspiration evaporate the moment I face the screen. It is a bit frustrating. I have given my blog a little makeover. What do you think?

Wherever you are today in this world I hope that you and your loved ones are safe. My thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected by the recent terrorist attacks.

Many hugs!

  1. Happy birthday, Solveig! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend, with or without the sun. I do like the new look on the blog. I noticed it was different as soon as I came here, but I can’t really remember the old one now! And you have a new profile photo. I’m glad you liked Seasons of Imagination. Thanks for the mention 🙂

    1. Hey, thank you it’s only tomorrow, but I think tomorrow I won’t be blogging 🙂
I really enjoyed it and I willdo my best to get a post up soon…
I had an old theme that I wasn’t happy with anymore (mostly white), it felt sort of dated (they said it has been retired).

  2. Happy Birthday, Solveig. My birthday is Wednesday, but I have many more trips around the sun than you have. I enjoyed hearing about your activities and reading. Enjoy LOTS of Birthday cake tomorrow!
