H is for Home – A to Z Challenge April 2015

My first year living in the U.S. we read a book in school entitled “Homesick”. I just remember that it was about a girl who spend a lot of her childhood in China, she was always longing to go home to her country of origin, we thought that she was homesick for her country of origin, but actually it was the other way around. As an adult looking back at her childhood, she had grown homesick for China.

But what is home? I read this book when I was far away from my previous home in Germany. But slowly I started liking my new home in the States. When I moved to France I took to the home there too. England, Poland and then France again.

I always managed to feel at home quickly, even if it is often hard in the beginning, depending on the apartment, the location and other things.

If I feel comfortable somewhere I do very quickly feel at home. I feel at home in my apartment with little one and S., in my parent’s apartment up the street, when I visit my mother in law, or anyone in my family or of my friends.

Where do you feel at home? What is home for you?

For Me, Hime is where my family are, so when we travel and sleep in tents, that’s Home, I always say to my son let’s go home.. He says “Mum we’re sleeping in tents!” And so what.. Today thats Home!

Thank you for sharing what home means for you! Family sure has a lot to do with “home”.
I do guess that Australia is a great place to live in tents and travel all the time 🙂

We have done a two month trip half way around Australia in 2012 and in September this year we are doing another two month on the other side of Australia. I love camping and when you switch off a lot of the “screens” you have more time to really connect, thats why I love camping!

I am eager to discover Australia one day. I only know it through the eyes of Bruce Chatwin 🙂
          Have fun!

Home is where my family is! And my bed. I love my bed. I’ve never lived abroad. I have lived most of my life in the same time (diverting for 10 years to the D.C. area). But mostly, it’s where I laugh, love, and live!

Thank you for sharing. Family is definitely an important element to defining what home is. I like that it is “where I laugh, love, and live!”

I actually feel at home when I am with my family- my husband and my daughter. Truly, home is where the heart is 🙂 So, I can be anywhere and feel right at home if those two are by my side.

I have to agree with everyone else here that home is wherever my family is. As long as I know we are all together whether we are at a hotel, camping site, or anywhere that’s not home I feel at home with them next to me

I am happy to see that everyone so far sees home less of a fixed place, but more as something defined by the atmosphere and the people that surround us.
Thank you lrod for your comment 🙂

Home is anywhere when the combo of geography and people make me feel good.
