looking back and looking ahead

Today, I am meant to publish a book review, but the book I considered reviewing (for weeks now) just leaves me without inspiration, and I read it 3 times in the last 15 years! So I am skipping the book review for now and am using today to share the quarter’s stats and some goals when it comes to writing, blogging, and working. I also figured that this way I will not hijack tomorrow’s coffee post.

It seems to be a popular sport to share quarterly blog stats on a monthly or quarterly basis. I am used to sharing stats of a different nature with the authorities every quater, because I am freelance German teacher (I sometimes teach English too).

Looking Back

Quarterly Blog Performance (3rd quarter 2015)
Total views: 1807, my best month for my blog so has been September with 717 views
Unique visitors since beginning of blog: 985
Visitors in September: 170 – I am 13 visitors short of my best month which was Mai
I joined twitter in September, which coincided with posting about my favourite blogs and a Weekend Coffee Share and thus translated into a sudden spike in views. Once I joined twitter, my parents discovered my blog (I am a bit shy when it comes to sharing my blog people who I know…), and now more and more members of my family, close and a bit more distant started to read.

Quarterly Work Performance
Ah shouldn’t even mention this, in my line of work Summer is bad for business… But things have been picking up since the beginning of September. I even did a three hour intense course of English for the first time in almost 2 years, but the pay will come later, so it doesn’t count statistically speaking.

Quarterly Writing Performance
Can I hide somewhere? Ok it is not that bad, but I am so far away from my goals. Why not check out my blog battle posts?
I would also like to draw your attention to a guest post I recently did on Ula’s blog, Confessions of a Broccoli Addict. I shared a special memory of my grandmother.

Looking Ahead

Blogging Goals
Increase the number of views and visitors. Interact with my followers, and commenters. Try to be more regular in posting. Fridays?!! I have something that resembles roughly a schedule. But what counts most is quality posts, rather than a post a day with bad quality. If I can churn out a post per day in good quality well then that will be bonus.
I also have to organise my categories, tags etc.
The idea of getting my own domain is also getting more and more present.

Work Goals
Finish the year positively. I’d like just a few more clients and work. I would like to work between 10 and 15 hours per week (that’s only 2 or 3 hours per day if I work 5 days, so is doable in terms of organisation).  I am seriously thinking about online teaching, but am not sure how to go on about it.

Writing Goals
I have joined in the #OctWritingChallenge and thus challenge myself to write at least 500 words per day. I think I’ll join it again in November and December. I am even considering joining #NaNoWriMo, but at the moment I am still a bit scared.
And then there are all of those posts that I want to write, that I have mentioned here and there, they will help boost the word count.

Reading Goals
I want to read a bit more. Books and blogs. I have some free ebooks on my phone that beg for a read and a review, and some paperbacks that are being read too. S gave me a big book on the philosophy of time, so that I can research the notion of time for my creative work.

Have a great October, enjoy Autumn! Have a great fourth quarter of 2015!

Do you have any goals for the 3 last months of 2015? Are you part of #OctWritingChallenge or planning on joining #NaNoWriMo?
Now that I am on twitter, why not follow me there too? You can find me under @SolveigJW

  1. It sounds like you are doing really well. I was thinking about doing the NaNoWriMo thing. Tried to do it last year, but became stuck at about 10000 words. Maybe this year I will complete the goal, I just need to organize my time better.

    1. I need to find a story… I have crated a NaNoWriMo account and have so far not found a story, but hopefully it will come.
You already have an amazing book published!

      1. Thanks Solveig!!! I am just going to write this next one off the cuff, by the seat of my pants, and see where it takes me. My book hasn’t really done anything recently, and I am told that maybe I need to write another one (a little less sad and intense) and hopefully that one will take off and draw interest to the first book. I need to put your lovely review up. Yep, that’s what I need to do.

        1. i am thinking of doing portraits or interviews, maybe I shall have you for that. well a portrait would be something I would write after a few questions are answered and I read a lot of the person’s work.
do put it up! and maybe do a guest post here and there. I know we are all shy about self promotion, but some blogs give a platform.
