The Yuletide season is one of relaxation and happiness for all who belong to Vexstein, from the lowliest to the highest, currently my uncle, Baron Smallweed, who succeeded a few years ago following the death of my other uncle, the late Baron Darcy.
The relaxation stems in part to the fact that we close down production at the brewery for the ten day holiday. This allows everyone to have a good break and for all the equipment to be thoroughly cleaned and overhauled. So Solstice really starts with the end of the last shift, and to mark that, we have a firework display over the brewery, and a street market with vendors selling hot drinks and snacks, playing music and dancing, on the streets outside the castle walls. It is run by run by Victor, who stars in many of the books. With little or no entertainment technology, the itinerant story-teller – or Narrator – is a welcome guest to keep people entertained; in this case, Willoughby shows up in the nick of time.
Willoughby the Narrator is book 7 in the series, and is due to be published in spring 2017.
Jemima says “I wrote this originally last year, for the Princelings website, as part of the general degeneration of society in my Princelings world. I read it now and think I’ve been altogether too accurate in predicting the state of our own world. Whatever your beliefs, I wish you joy of the season and a hopeful new year.”

“Making an entrance as usual, Willoughby!” called one of the people leaning against the bar, and other calls and greetings met him as he struggled to shut the door again. The weather noises receded, and the hubbub of a warm and friendly refuge took over. Continue reading “No Room at the Inn of the Seventh Happiness by Jemima Pett | Day 3 | Advent Calendar 2016”
