Christmas 2018 (after Betjamen) by Geoff Le Pard | Advent 2018 – Day 16 – 3rd Sunday

Christmas 2018 (after Betjamen)

The bells of waiting Advent ring
And still I sit and stare
They say it’s calling to the King
But do I really care?
Maybe once there was a point
To all this mumbo jumbo
Now it’s mammon we anoint,
Like some plastic bearing Dumbo
At school we’d spend the hours and days
Rehearsing the nativity
These days it really doesn’t pay
To expose our base naïveté.
Santa has been Disneyfied
And the only snow is fake
And charity ends up vilified
Since we must be on the make.
So what’s the point of Christmas time
We have to ask ourselves
Surely it’s more than a cheesy rhyme
Sung by some plastic elves?
It’s time we took back full control
Of all to do with Xmas
We need to hold a people’s poll
And get out the vote for Brexmas

When he’s not churning out novels he writes some maudlin self-indulgent poetry, short fiction and blogs at geofflepard.com. He walks the dog for mutual inspiration and most of his best ideas come out of these strolls. He also cooks with passion if not precision.

This is his second contribution in this year’s calendar, the other is The Advent Calendar. And in the past I had the pleasure to have him as a guest during the other editions:  The Advent Calendar (2015)It will be Lonely this Christmas, The Fourth PlinthChristmas Fun, circa 1968; an argument and having a gas

Snow by Solveig Werner | Advent 2018 – Day 15

A white Christmas!

How many have I had of them? Not many.

Last Winter was bitter cold, it snowed, but in February (and that did lead to some complications).

For the last few days it has been mighty cold, how would I love it to snow for Christmas. We are almost there. In ten days from today, it is the 25th of December. The Advent Calendar only has 9 more days left (or did you finish off your chocolate on the first day?).

Here are some photos of snow that I took 9 years ago in Zakopane in Poland.

I didn’t think that I would be the person posting for the calendar today, but like every year it is a bit tough to find participants. Everyone has work/school/projects and often their own blog that all take up a lot of time. Then December is the moment of the year were we prepare Christmas and often have to battle a nasty cold or even the flu. Thus I cannot say how grateful I am for all the contributions that I have so far received and that I am still going to receive. I would also like to thank all of the visitors to the blog (that includes you), some leave comments.

I really hope that the calendar (and those of the years past) still warm your heart and spirit in this cold season of the year.

Thank you for stopping by, and if you are wondering I am still looking for 4-5 contributions (stories, memories, pictures, paintings, music, videos…). If you are tempted, let me know!
