How about a nice hot cup of tea? Or some hot chocolate? Or some water? Do you want to join us for our late lunch? Or do you just want to have some fruit (kakis, pomegranates)?
Don’t look at me like that! I know, I have been a bad coffee sharer lately, I didn’t have the time or energy to visit many blogs the last time I participated. And for some time now my 30 to 31 challenge has been a bit dormant. But what can I say? Life gets in the way (kids, work…).
I hope that you don’t mind me coughing.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I have been quite sick for 3 weeks now. My sense of smell came back 3 or 4 days ago, it’s super strange not to smell anything for quite some time. You’ll probably be a bit worried by now. I went to the doctors on Monday, the wait was very long as I have to book my appointment online. Turns out I have bronchitis, I am now on antibiotics so I shouldn’t be all that contagious anymore.
If we were having coffee, I’d look up from my cup of tea and tell you that I’ve had a bike accident. I am ok. Just a few bruises, but it’s been quite a shock. On Wednesday on the way to one of my lessons on a very quiet street (as I try to pick the safest roads) on the middle of a crossing I was hit from behind by a taxi. I had one foot on the ground as I was waiting for two cars coming from the right to continue. Suddenly my bike jumped up beneath me and I was on the ground, I managed to keep my head up. I was quite shaken. What disturbs me the most is that I heard nothing as the taxi was a very silent electric or hybrid car.
If we were having coffee, we’d probably chat a bit more about road safety, and cold but I would try to move the conversation into a more joyous mode.
If we were having coffee, Id ask you following question: Are you celebrating Thanksgiving in the coming week? We are and I don’t think that I’ll be posting much here, but my Instagram (stories) will be full of food pictures. I lived in Pennsylvania for 3 years and we took the tradition with us to Europe. Now, since 2004 it has been a great way for my family to get together once a year without having to worry about presents, or having to chose who to celebrate with this year (no one celebrates Thanksgiving so the risk of having to choose between parents and inlaws doesn’t really exist). I am really looking forward to it, we’ll be so many people and my best friend will be introducing her baby (I met her twice so far) to my cousins, grandpa, my aunts and uncles. I guess the fact that my dad was making Panforte di Sienna this morning when we visited, helps.
Now, if we were having coffee, I’d incite you to go for a nice walk. Today, the weather is definitely beautiful! I’d also tell you to go and read a few other coffee posts (the “host” post can be found here). Oh, and can I interest you in being part of this year’s advent calendar? As I have been sick and busy I haven’t had the time to do a lot of promotion. And maybe I did put my post up a bit to early.

So glad to hear you are on the mend. My son is sick too and from the way he was coughing last night I am thinking bronchitis as well. I’m going to urge him to make a doctors appoinment today. I wont yell at your absence because I too have been a bad Coffee sharer lately. I’m hoping to do better now that life has slowed down some and speaking of slowing down, that taxi totally should have!!! Lucky it wasn’t more serious. As for your question, we most certainly do celebrate Thanksgiving and I am quite looking forward to it. My husband’s brother and his wife traditionally host and because our families have become so close over our 25 years of marriage, they invite my sister and her family as well. I can’t wait to visit with my niece and her two little boys. I host Christmas here for everyone so this holiday is great for me because aside from helping with food and clean up, i can relax and visit more. Have a great day and thanks for the coffee!!

Boy, I’m so sorry that you have had such a traumatic few weeks. Having bronchitis is rough, but fortunately (knock on wood) I have never had it. I’m glad you are on meds to help you return to good health. Then, OMG… being hit by a taxi! How terrible! I’m glad you didn’t sustain major damage. Did the taxi driver apologize, I hope?
I am looking forward to Thanksgiving as both my children and their families will all be together in my son’s home. I’m so excited. I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with love and family. Take care!

I wish I were in Paris where the weather was beautiful! Actually, I’d like to be there even if the weather were rotten ;). I’m sorry you’ve been so sick. I was sick a couple of weeks ago. The worst of it was over three or four days, but a week later my chest became congested. But luckily that cleared up. I hope you are well soon. And being hit by a taxi… Even with just a few bruises, still scary! I hope you are fine from that. Cool that you are celebrating Thanksgiving along with us over here. I hope you have a great week!

I don’t know if it still exists, but there is/was a Thanksgiving shop in Paris for all the expatriates and ex-expatriates needing supplies, now we can even find cranberries in a normal supermarket. I caught the cold bugs at the end of September, and so I’m doing pretty well, now. My sympathies, and I hope the medication clears away the last of the discomfort before your Thanksgiving celebration. The Advent Calendar project sounds quite interesting. Do you always have volunteers for all the dates?

I still have a little cough but the worst is behind me. I am happy to have finished my antibiotics but it wasn’t all too bad (I have memories of not being able to eat properly as I had to take some that gave me terrible nausea…
Well, it’s always a scramble, but then I like having more than one contribution on the 4 Advent Sundays and some people contribute twice. It has also happened that the day of a person’s post the person seems to have disappeared from the internet altogether. But then it’s time to improvise (write a story myself). I think it’s a good time to sit still, heal, enjoy relearning what the world smells like and read some fun stuff.
And don’t worry about that last cough – I have anti-virus filters on my laptop that screens out such nastiness.
I do recommend you catch up with some of the others. Rowena is not the only great writer in this herd (but she is wonderful) and if you are willing to sit and read some fun stuff, I have a few short and funny stories in my collection that you might get a kick out of.
