Innocent Harvest

She stuffed another hand of raspberries into her tiny mouth. Mmm, what a taste!

“Louise?” mother’s voice called from a nearby bush.

The girl looked up smiling, her porcelain face covered by pink sticky bliss.

“Let me see your basket!”

On her way to her mother, she plucked another fruit from the bush and added it to the others, in her mouth.

“Oh, honey! Only three berries after what, one hour?”

Louise lowered her sparkling eyes and counted her treasure.

“At least I can count them!” she defended herself.

“Yes, but there are too few for jam, my love!”

    1. I prefer raspberries, but in my memory it were the blackberries too… I have no idea if we ever had enough blackberries, with currants it was never a problem

  1. Growing up, we had raspberry bushes growing in our back yard. Dad insisted on it. He was always hopefully that Mom would make us some raspberry jam one day. She never did; we all tended to eat them before any of them ever made it near a pot. I loved the little girls defense! Lovely flash.

    1. It’s better that way than fruit spoiling on the bushes, when I visit my mother in law I am always shocked by how many people let their cherries go to waste on the trees, the birds cannot even eat that many. I am for eating right away or transforming for later consumption 🙂
