If we were having coffee – 3 October 2015

Come on in my dear! How have you been? I have been a bit absent from the world of blogging lately. I have not even seen you for coffee, erm, tea in two weeks now. I have an excuse though…

Chilli Peppers and Basil If we were having coffee, I would ask you to excuse the mess my appartement currently is in. I am trying to organise things, but with a toddler around that’s not always easy. Besides the mess, we have a big chilli plant in our apartment, which due to renovation work has moved inside. The fruits are enormous, they were meant to be tiny, but due to cross pollination last year, genes have been accidentally mixed with bell peppers…

I hope that you don’t mind the music. Today my daughter and I are listening to some Woodpigeon. I saw them once or twice while living in Newcastle and back then made sure to write a review of the gig. I am happy that some of my old writing is still around on the internet. Because I am regularly kicking myself that I deleted my personal blogs years ago, without saving my writing… This also means I should try to save everything that is out there. I am very curious to find out if the articles that I wrote for my school’s newspaper are still available somewhere. Mom, have you kept copies?

Recently, I have been building up courage and confidence and am now telling people about my blog, I guess passing the 6 months milestone helps. My newest German student managed to extract so much information from me yesterday, that he might be reading this post today. I have to be careful what I write now, with all this new audience.

Would you like some tea? This morning we received a whole lot of tea by Yunnan Sourcing. And maybe you want to taste a oolong, a black tea, a white or green tea. These teas are all from China and of amazing quality. What do you think of it? Don’t be surprised, little one will probably begging for some tea, I blame her dad for that.

So you are questioning me, why have you been so slow with answering comments? Why have you not been to my blog? Why have you been writing so little? Why haven’t you had me for coffee in weeks now?
Sorry, sometimes it is important to take a break, to come back with inspiration and quality! I was in Germany for a weekend, as my youngest cousin started primary school. I was back home for a night before leaving for Normandy. We had a little family holiday, just the three of us. It was definitely beautiful, refreshing, and inspirational. Yes, there will be a few Normandy posts, but I have to finish my Austrian Adventure too. S had a week off from work, so we enjoyed being home too, and I noticed that blogging is something that I do in my own time. Blogging + writing = me time, little one still has a hard time understanding this.
My mom celebrated her birthday, and a few friends of hers which are often mine too came to celebrate, my uncle was there too.

Now, I feel refreshed, motivated and inspired to have a very productive October in terms of writing. I do realise that I have not written many short stories, especially flash fiction, lately. I have to correct that!

Zotter Chocolate Would you like some chocolate? I have some amazing Zotter Chocolate. Josef Zotter makes my favourite, favourite chocolate. What about some pink strawberry chocolate lightbulbs? After all “they will light up your ideas”, and that for anyone writing is good. Or some mango or passionfruit chocolates?

Before I let you go, make sure you head over to Diana’s blog Part-Time Monster, she is hosting this chatty weekend blog hop. Make sure you check out her post and those of the other coffee sharers, and share them on twitter #WeekendCoffeeShare

One last question. I am new to twitter, and completely lost. I have read some twitter advice posts in the past, and know that one certain days I should use hashtags. But what hashtags on what days? And I am also lost for the whole twitter etiquette. If you have some tips (maybe something you wrote in the past) let me know.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by, Solveig

  1. but it’s easy enough wants you realize the most basic principle that it’s like a message in the bottle thrown into the twitter pond, (full of other bottles) and you hope someone reads yours.
    crazy right I agree

    1. I think they still do. Now they have a huge collection of vegan chocolats too. With 365 chocolats there is a chance that you can get goats milk, I have the new catalogue for the 2015/2016 season, so I should check…

  2. I don’t drink coffee and only drink plain old regular tea such as what is storebrand in my local supermarket. Not into fancy teas. Sounds like you have your hands full right now.

  3. I love the sound of those chocolate strawberry light bulbs. I am a severe chocoholic and while we were away last week, we spotted an incredible chocolate shop with honey roasted, chocolate-coated macadamia nuts. Wow!
Good luck with the writing and parenting. Had to find a balance!

    1. They are great. It’s actually white chocolate and most of the milk has been replaced my strawberries. You should try zotter if you are a chocoholic.
Finding my balance is not always easy. But then again at times everything flows. Thanks.

  4. Chocolate strawberry lightbulbs? Oh, don’t mind if I do. 🙂

Glad to see you back. Sounds like you’ve had a great few weeks. 🙂

Hashtags aren’t quite as tricky as they seem–the real trick is in finding them. They’re really just ways of categorizing a post: #weekendcoffeeshares, for instance, are on the weekend blog posts in the if we were having coffee style. Occasionally something else gets thrown in, but I try to keep it just to that and remind others to do so, too. #MondayBlogs and #SundayBlogShare are both big blog sharing tags on Monday and Sunday respectively.

    1. The light bulbs are actually cooking chocolate, I put them into pancakes once but that’s not doing them justice. My daughter’s birthday cake was decorated with them which is more like it.
Thanks for the Twitter advice, I’ll see what I can make of it 🙂

  5. A pepper plant indoors seems super cool to me, and I absolutely relate to toddler distractions and twitter confusion, so yes, I’d love some chocolate!

I’m glad you’re telling people about your blog! I’m way behind in reading blogs, but plan to catch up in November.

    1. Some of the peppers are starting to change colour. We’ve had a taste a bit ago and they are going to be hot!
Well people ask me questions and then I tell them that I write and then they squeeze out the info…
I have some blogs that I have to binge read too… We can’t always be living writing and reading …

  6. Hi Solveig, I love the pepper plant!!! It looks so healthy and vibrant. I don’t really understand the Twitter hashtag thing either, I always feel like I am on the outside of a party looking in, when I go on to Twitter.
I haven’t been very good with my blogging lately. Trying to get back into shape, in the gym almost every day now, between that and work and life, blogging has taken a backburner. But I came back to see how my friend Solveig was doing.
It seems as if your life is quite full too!!!!!!

    1. Hey SD!
Sorry for my lateness in replying to all of your lovely comments. But I have been sick and had my mother in law over and tried to clean my apartment thoroughly… Just like you I have not been good with blown or writing either lately.
God for you, I should do sports but I am lazy… and have never enjoyed sport all that much. Just haven’t found my right exercise yet I guess.
It’s good to have you around 🙂

      1. Thanks Solveig, it is good to be back. I hope you are feeling better. Can your mother-in-law come and help me organize and clean? I just feel like I can’t keep up with everything and my house is in such need of a really good scrubbing. Maybe I will do that this weekend, as we will all be moving inside as it is getting cooler now and darker so much earlier.

        1. lol na i did not let her clean. and you know now she is gone the mess is even worse, but that’s because they are redoing the plumbing in my apartment so there are plumbers everywhere. I hate hate cleaning, but it’s a necessary evil. I tried to do as much as I could before she came, but then I ended up sick… have a guest over and you’ll see the cleaning bug will bite you before they arrive.

          1. That’s true – we never invite anyone to our house – it is our sanctuary, but you are right, I should invite someone over just to motivate me to clean, really clean.

            1. I sometimes have my clients over, so the house has to seem clean. I am not keen on inviting people either, but when I do I am always told that my apartment is nice, it’S niceness makes up for the mess…

              1. Mostly we just have the boys’ friends over. I think they all like our house because it is really comfy and cozy and we have two really cute dogs(big, but cute)!!!
