If we were having coffee – 11 July 2015

Where did this week go? It went by so quickly that I have the feeling that last time we sat down for our weekend chat was only yesterday.

How are you doing? How was your week? Anything planned for the week to come? Have you written, blogged, photographed anything exciting? Have you come across some new blogs? Have you written/read anything that you are dying to share?

today’s choice of drinks 🙂

But before we get started, it’s getting hotter again, but not as hot as last Saturday, thus you need a drink! What would you like? A good Pu-erh? Or a glass of water? You have the choice between Cortex and Vittel. My favourite of the two is Vittel, as it has an amazing balance mineral and taste wise, but Cortex is not far away. I could go on about water preferences for hours (as I discovered the importance of a great water during my pregnancy) but that’s because I came across this post by Celine the other day where she posted a Cortex add, in France it is completely marketed for weight loss, thus it’s women’s water, all pink… Vittel is a tour de France sponsor…

Now enough said about drinks. My week went by so quickly, I don’t really recall what I did. Not enough writing for sure. After last week’s coffee post I shared a 4th of July memory, I then posted a drawing I did on Tuesday (it’s now on the wall, as you can see in the picture with the drinks), I posted the second and last instalment of my 2 part travel series, but then completely failed at putting up a Friday book review/recommendation, for now it is only written in my head… I have been quite active commenting on other blogs, but not so good when it came to responding to comments on mine. I have also gone on a great following spree, and am looking forward to your recommendations of blogs to follow.

So yesterday, I did not manage to post anything, but I was busy shopping for garden materials, so that our windowsills will be all green. Turns out I have to go back soon, maybe this afternoon and buy more things.IMG_2985 On the way to the store, we were surprised by a huge group of cyclists, all dressed in yellow, some wearing wings on their backs, Eiffel Towers or stuffed animals on their heads, and quite often spotting a Scandinavian flag on their cheek. I think for about 10 minutes they stopped the traffic, and well people weren’t happy, so many were honking their horns to get through… Turns out, it’s the world’s largest charity cycling team!

On the 14th we’ll be treated to a presentation of France’s military strength, I might go with little one to have a glimpse at the airplanes and tanks… The airplanes can be quite impressive, last year we went to the parade on the Champs Elysées  and even though there was a lot of noise, little one slept.

I have some errants to take care of now, so I will have to leave you. But it was great to have you around for a short chat. See you in the days to come! Now go on, and check out the other coffee posts over at Diana’s place, and make sure you join the linky with your own post.

Thanks for stopping by, Solveig (the photos are hosted on flickr)

  1. How wonderful to see the charity cycling team – a nice addition to your little adventure! I hope you have a lovely time on Bastille Day and enjoy the presentation. Have a great weekend 🙂

    1. Thank you! I’ll try to get some good pictures on Tuesday. Some of the planes (or maybe flying objects would be more correct) are definitely worth a picture. I’ll try to get a glimps of the horses if I go this time.
I have never seen so many people cycling together, the Tour de France is nothing quantity wise next to it 🙂

  2. I loved your story about the Independence Day memory. And I think I’ve come across a cycling team like that before. I think it even was in Paris a few years ago, might have even been the same team. But they sure stopped traffic. Lucky for me, I’m usually a pedestrian.

Have fun on quatorze juillet! My Bastille Day memory is from 2009 – my ex and I had driven to Nancy and completely forgot is was July 14. Nothing was open except this really crappy pizza place we managed to order take away from. I speak some French, but I understand more than I can say as I am out of practice. It took me a while to ask the receptionist whether she could order pizza for us, because while I got the words for the order together, the answers to any of their questions woud have been a problem, especially over the fun. The delivery guy turned up in a torrential downpour, on a moped, in an extremely sour mood….

    1. Wow, your comment is almost a post on its own Conny. I managed to see he airplanes yesterday and for the first time ever he horses, but not so much the vehicles, ok that’s not a problem as I have seen them in the past years.
Here everything was open, but I guess that’s the Parisian deformation.
I understand his mood, bad weather and having to work on a holiday, things could be better …

  3. I’m glad you are getting to blog more. Reading and commenting are just as important, if not more important, that actually posting your own words. However, I’m sure you will find the balance that is best for you. I’m doing less commenting these days, I just realized, but that’s because I have also been trying to do a lot more in my daily life. While the weather is good, I am getting out with the grandchildren and when I am home I am trying to sort through things and get rid of what can be used by others and trash what can no longer be used. I’m slowly working on getting things to the point where I will be happy to just sit and enjoy being home. I think it will be more conducive to writing and blogging and everything else. I hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. When my own words don’t come, well then in love to read and comment. Just replying to comments has been suffering.
I am now enjoying the cool evening breeze of a hot day. My daughter and I are in the parc and she’s playing in a sandbox with her new toys (grandmother’s present).
I think I jinxed myself, blogging has slowed down once again.
Enjoy the time with your grandkids, I have the feeling that it’s such a magical relationship.
You too have a wonderful week, or at least enjoy what is left of it now.

  4. I went to Bastille Day once. And just like Conny, it was an unplanned, but fun day. What I remember the most is that parties just raged in the streets all night long! And amazing fireworks. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

    1. I never went to a Bastille day party, they have firemen balls, which must be quite a thing to experience. I went to the military parade and well managed to see those horses, I had never seen them before.

  5. Love the drawing!

I think I’m finally beginning to get back on schedule, but some weeks post don’t happen as easily as others. Hope you get a chance to get that book review onto the blogosphere soon.

    1. Thank you! I am totally with you on the week’s sometimes not working out as they should.
I haven’t had he chance to post it or well write it up, but it’s not only a review it’s a whole story of how hard it was to get my hands on the book.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I have been wondering if I should change it, seen that it is no longer spring, but I think, taking into account your comment, that I should leave it.

  7. Hope you have a fabulous Bastille Day, I went once, in 2001 and remember it was a fantastic day. I’ve been a bit slack on the blogging front recently, finding it really hard to get motivated.
Loved seeing the charity cyclists must have been an amazing sight. Have a wonderful week.

    1. Thanks Rosie, I finally managed to see the horses and not only planes and vehicles…
Maybe we should all dive into some free writing to get back on track, I guess that’s a side effect of summer.
I hope that your week has been great so far.

  8. Hmm, I have to say I prefer Evian to all other waters, but Vittel is pretty good too. I’ve never tried contrex, but I don’t think I like the idea of a slimming water – even if their ads are hilarious.

I’m amazed by the way that you write in 3 languages. I can only just manage to write well in one, despite speaking 2. As in I can write fine in French too (a good thing since I’m French), but no longer well enough that I’d want to write posts or anything else in French. It’s amazing that you have that level of fluency in all 3 languages!

Ah et bon 14 Juillet! 🙂

    1. Well it’s not too different from butter, the sources lie 5km apart and both are owned by Nestlé. In Germany centrex is marketed at people who want to do sports and what to have a great mineral balance. I want to write more in French, but don’t dare as I am scared of making mistakes… I should do more of it. Because else I will make even more mistakes.
You should write in French from time to time 🙂

      1. You’re right I really should write in French more. At the moment though I’m purposefully only reading and writing only in English, since I write my novels in English. If I read or speak in French, I then find it very hard to sit down and write in English – so I’m having to put the blinkers on. Maybe in a couple of years when I have a few more books out I’ll take a break and read and write in French for a bit 🙂

I’m still amazed that you have 3 languages to that level though. That’s quite something!

        1. I am not a fan of reading in French, the way conversations are formatted is always so strange. I should read and write more in it myself. Thank you!
