Halfway Into the A to Z Challenge – Inspirational Insomnia – Thank You All

Wow, I cannot believe it! We are already half way through the A to Z Challenge, and up to now I have managed to post every day. Today’s post is ready to go, but before that I want to give you a recap post on the challenge.

I just woke up froFlower2SolveigWernerm a very short night, I was plagued by inspirational insomnia (I think that I was influenced by this post on motivation on All But The Kitchen Sink by Trista, who has thanks to her encouraging comments been a great motivation for me), it is horrible, I guess many of you have come to experienced at one moment or another. I just kept coming up with what to write for the letters to come, O, R, T are now written in my mind, meaning that today I will have to write them all up in order not to forget. I have my P, V, and W posts all lined up already, S is written in my notebook, and I do suppose that I will come up with something for the remaining letters, maybe some last minute flash fiction.

My blog is now a little over a month old, my first post went up on the 12th of March, and the A to Z Challenge has done so much good! I have the feeling to have found a good balance, now that I am writing. Thank you all for being there with me, and encouraging me to continue being creative.

Now with your questions and compliments I am seriously thinking about starting into a fun novel writing adventure. Maybe the fact that I am following Sarah Wathen, who just published her first novel on Monday (congratulations!!!), or that I have stumbled upon Elodie Nowodazij’s self publishing tips, has influenced this new idea.

  • This blog has passed the 25 follower Flower-SolveigWernermark, thank you all!
  • And the symbolic threshold of 100 likes.
  • Up to now “G is for Girl” has received the most comments.
  • Up to now “J is for Jump” has received the most likes.

Besides starting to build a great blogging community, I have also started to learn things about blogging in general. One great blog to learn about the dos and don’ts of blogging is Serins Sphere, but also my new blogging friend Lrod has shared some useful tips on blogging here. I did not realise, when going into this whole new adventure, that commenting was such an important part of blogging.

And now some questions for you:

  • Does it bother you if I post more than once a day? I do not wish to clutter anyones mailbox or wp reader… I am sorry if it does annoy you, today will be a 2 post day.
  • Will you come back, even after the A to Z Challenge is over? I guess we all worry about this one a bit.
  • Have you experienced inspirational insomnia?
  • If you are participating in the A to Z Challenge, how is it going for you?
  • Have you developed the habit to comment on other bloggers posts?

I am looking forward to your answers 🙂

  1. Well done, I didn’t realise your blog was so new. Last year was my first A to Z and I found that at the end of it I had a core of blogging friends who came back. Some are doing A to Z again this year too, and we are still commenting on each others’ blogs. This year, I hope I’ve added to them. Others drifted away or seem to have given up blogging. So a mixture – maybe that answers one or two of your questions!

    1. I had a blog years ago, but I think no one ever read that. I gave myself the kick in the butt recently to get back into it and I am having a great time. Ok it is intimidating to start with A to Z right away, but it is great too.
      Thank you for your answers.

  2. Thanks for the shout out 😃 I’m glad you’ve been having fun with the A to Z challenge. As far as the questions you asked: it doesn’t bother me if you post more than once a day. It’s pretty much up to you, many bloggers do it. I also had the fear of “losing” my readers when I joined WP because I was taking the Photo 101 course and I thought once it was over maybe they wouldn’t come back but I was wrong, I got more followers. Personally, I will keep coming back! When I read inspirational insomnia I laughed because I have! I couldn’t sleep, I just had to write before forgetting my ideas 😃at this point in the A-Z challenge, I’m actually not preparing ahead of time. Life kind of got in the way so I’m trying my best to keep up. Commenting has become a habit, it’s great meeting new people.
I can’t believe you have so many posts ready I haven’t even done today’s (N). Good luck on the others 😀

    1. You are welcome! It has been so much fun “talking” to you since the beginning of the challenge.
Before I committed to the challenge I tried to write up a few posts in advance, it just scared me a bit and well on somedays I just do not have the time to prepare a post.
I am glad that you will come back, I was sure that you would 🙂
I do like that A to Z puts me into the habit of commenting.
Well today’s post “o” is mostly ready in my head and not ready on paper, as yesterday was full of unplanned events.
Thank you for answering my questions. And good luck to you too with the challenge, I really do enjoy your entries.

  3. Wow – congratulations on being only a month old and diving into the A-Z Challenge!!

Personally, I find interacting with others through comments is the BEST part of blogging. I never imagined the real friendships that would develop with people all over the world.
… and sometimes, the comments following a blog post are funnier or more informative than the original post. There are so many amazing and witty people out there!!

Don’t worry too much about whether visitors to your site will keep coming back. It’s hard to do, I know, but people will fade in and out for a variety of different reasons. Look for blogs – or commenters on blogs – that interest you. As you engage more people, your own readership will grow.

Personally, I don’t like posting every day but certain daily challenges like the A-Z present a creative challenge I can’t resist. By the end of the month, though, I’m pretty exhausted and I worry that my followers are too!

… and yes, I get inspirational insomnia. It’s not uncommon for me to be up until dawn trying to capture all the thoughts swirling around in my head!!

Good for you having so many posts prepared in advance!! Hope you have fun with the rest of the challenge 🙂

    1. Thank you! I saw A to Z as the perfect opportunity to get into the habit of regularly writing. And up to now I have had a lot of fun and do hope that it will continue even after the challenge.
      Thanks for the useful tips.
Inspirational insomnia does add to the exhaustion at the end of the month I guess. When you have it, do you get up and write, take notes or something or do you stay put, hoping that you will not forget?

      1. You mean like right now when I’ve been awake since 4am? 🙂
I have to get up and start doing whatever is occupying my mind. Right now it’s the build-up of emails and posts that I haven’t been able to get to this week!

        1. Oh that’s no fun being up at that time. Good luck! I do hope that you will get some sleep later on.
That means you use the time wisely, I have so far not dared get up, but I think that if it happens again I will, else it is lost time.

  4. Yes, I will keep visiting after A to Z!! I probably would get behind if you posted more frequently, but I don’t mind taking time to catch up. Thanks for visiting my blog…I can’t tell you how happy I am that it’s helped motivate you!

    1. Oh your blog is great for finding motivation and to be reassured.
Well the frequency would also in part be to posting in different languages or wanting to desperately share some photos or something.
A to Z has so far helped me notice that flash fiction is a lot of fun for me, you seem to be a fan, thus I will try to continue posting more of that after the month is over.
      Thank you 🙂

  5. Nice to meet you, Solveig. 🙂 Thanks for visiting my Den recently. The A-Z is a great way to plunge right into the Blogosphere for any new blog. I made friends there last year who are still with me. We have a few things in common – Ich bin auch Deutsch – so, I will become a follower. Tschüß!

  6. I just found your blog from the reflections page. I have gotten up at 4AM a few times to write when I couldn’t sleep but mostly I sit all day at the computer writing and researching posts. Luckily my husband is very supportive and cooked dinner a lot during April. And he proof read my posts too. Our children are all grown and out of the house so we can do what we want with our time.

I don’t know how I would have done with the A to Z Challenge when I had only been blogging a month! I guess it really gets you going 🙂

    1. I figured that if I wanted to get into a blogging habit, then I also needed something to get me going. A to Z was perfect for that. Not only does it help developing a habit, but it also provided me with some very valuable and encouraging feedback.
