There is no best friend, there are only true friends.
One of my oldest friendships started almost 23 years ago, so I have known her longer than my sister. I met F. in kindergarten when I was four. I moved to a different region when we started school, but thanks to our moms’ friendship we stayed in touch, later on to a different continent. We always tried to see each other at least once a year, generally during our Easter holidays. We never really called, wrote letters or emails, just to arrange our meetings. Now she lives really close we try to see one another at least once a month. When little one was two days old she came to visit us in the hospital, she the only person not from our family to have the privilege.
I have many other good friends, we can talk for hours. The friendship is there even if we have not heard from one another in years. A true friend does not mind if you have been bad at keeping in touch, but they will be grateful when you will get in touch with them. A true friend will be there for you when you need them, if you are there for them when they need you. Of course it is best to stay in touch, but for various reasons people often don’t, but that does not mean that you are forgotten or no longer a friend. The initiative to reactivate a dormant friendship can come from both sides.
I want to thank all my friends for being my friends! And I am sorry if I have not always been great at keeping in touch.

I agree with you when you say, “There is no best friend, there are only true friends.” Nicely written and I also feel the same way, it’s hard to keep in touch over the years.

I do not like there being a hierarchy. There being a friend, a good, a better and a best friend is a bit strange.
Even if it is hard, a sign of life is always appreciated, there should be no negative remarks, we never know what led he other to be out of touch. And there are two sides of friendship.
Thank you for liking my writing.

I’m with Irod. “There is no best friend, there are only true friends.” Thank you for this. Happy A to Z.

I am glad that you enjoyed this post. So far I am having a blast at A to Z, but I am not at all happy with what I had initially planned for tomorrow, it does not fit anymore.
Thanks for stopping by.

Isn’t it funny how ideas develop? I have already chosen the writing quotes I want to share, but I leave the commentary for the night before. Or for the morning I post. Often what you see posted is quite different than what I began with. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my blog, Solveig.

Oh it definitely is. Sometimes it just flows and I have the feeling I have no control over the writing, and sometimes nothing works at all or I am really unhappy with what I have produced…
You are welcome, the pleasure is mine 🙂

Agree with you. I have many friends from school and our friendship dates back to 30 years.

Thank you for stopping by my blog.
Old friends are great as they share memories, and sometimes even have some that we have forgotten ourselves.

I have several friends that I can get in touch with after months and there’s no resentment – and vice versa! I think this is SO important in friendship, especially as we get older. There’s already too much to juggle in a day without settling in for a 45min phone call. I love when friends understand this and reciprocate!

I contacted one of my friends recently, we had not seen one another or talked in more than 5 years… she visited me, we talked for hours, she told me that the email I had send her, announcing to her that I was a mom (with some pictures), had all made her so happy. She was actually the person who pushed me to finally start this blog.

Great choice for the letter F. Friendships are hard to keep when we move often and that makes the friends we have since a long time so much precious. See you, Solveig.

Moving is definitely an obstacle, especially when you are a kid, but even later on in life. But I think that true friends are there even if there has been no sign of life for years.

My oldest friend is also from school and we don’t keep in touch much, other than Christmas, birthdays and to arrange our annual weekend together, yet when we get together it’s as if no time has passed. I’ll have known her 47 years in September! I hope you and your friend are still together at our stage of life too.
Thanks for visiting my blog earlier.

That is great for the annual meeting. Maybe Christmas, New Years and birthdays exist so that we have an outside incentive to contact our friends.
I do hope that our friendship will stay, I think so, we had the worst arguments (about nothing) when we were around 8 or 9 years old.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
